Giant is offering their Defy Advanced 2 at a price ($1,949) that other manufactures are unable to offer even a moderately equipped carbon frame. Don't let the affordable price make you skeptical though, this machine ticks all the boxes. A compliant frame that defies the roughest roads: check. Trickle down tech such as thru axles, flat-mount hydraulic disc brakes, tubeless ready wheels and tires: triple check.
Giant's Defy Advanced 2
The Defy is aimed at the rider looking for an endurance geometry and supple road feel. That doesn't mean this machine is lean on the race pedigree though. Borrowing the same layup as their higher end TCR's, the lightweight frame plays well in races and spirited group rides. On the road the Defy is a pleasure to ride - quickly dancing out of corners and lunging forward when going for those city-limit sprints. When John Degenkolb won the 2015 edition of Paris Roubaix he was aboard a Defy. Consider that the Defy has seen many upgrades since then makes it all the more enticing.
The combination of an oversized front-end and bottom bracket with razor thin seat stays all come together to make a frame that is compliant where you need it and rigid where want it. An endurance oriented frame that seems to float across the roughest of asphalt and gravel and still be snappy when you stomp of the pedals is unique to find. Equipping the Defy with a Shimano 105 drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes gets a durable spec that balances price and performance.
The Defy Advanced 2 is available at all Bicycle World locations. Come by, get set up on a test ride, and see the benefits for yourself.
